Master of Architecture Degree Program
Overview:

The Graduate Program consists of four semesters of study leading to an accredited Master of Architecture degree with a focus on sustainability and regional response. Candidates need to have a five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree or a four-year degree with an architecture major and completion of specific prerequisite courses. This degree program has been accredited since the 1972-73 school year.

1st Semester - Introductory level: A survey of readings, precedents, studio projects , and field trips. Addresses fundamental issues of sustainability in the built environment that result in an architecture of space and place distinctly regional in character.

2nd Semester - Intermediate level: Continuation at a more informed level of readings and precedents, studio projects and field trips. Advances students' understanding of context, design strategies, and research methods that lead to creating a sustainable regional architecture. Initial preparations for the Professional Project are emphasized.

3rd Semester - Advanced Studies I: Application of theory and practices to a professional project of the individual student's choosing. A faculty committee will guide the student's progress to completion of a schematic design that demonstrates a "comprehensive understanding and integrative capabilities" of the student in creating a building that is contextually responsive and environmentally responsible in promoting a sustainable future.

4th Semester - Advanced Studies II: Developing the professional project to a level of precise technical documentation. The schematic design completed in the 3rd Semester is further explored  advancing the student's understating of sustainability and regional response at the level of design development.
